Ray has been the Building Official for the City of Shoreline since March 2005. Prior to joining the Shoreline team, he served as the Building Division Manager for Snohomish County from 1995 to 2004, as a Capital Projects Manager for the University of Washington from 1992 to 1995, and as a U.S. Naval Civil Engineer Corps Officer from 1971 to 1992 which included overseas tours in Spain and Japan. Ray is an International Code Council (ICC) Certified Building Official (CBO) and member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Ray holds cum laude Bachelor’s degrees in Architecture and Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Master’s degrees in City Planning and Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania. Ray currently serves on the Washington Association of Building Officials Board of Directors, the Kirkland City Planning Commission, the Technical Committee on Cultural Resources of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Washington State Building Code Council.
