Station description

The headwaters of Siebert Creek are located in the foothills of the Olympic Mountains, within Olympic National Park. Siebert Creek is 12.4 miles in length, draining an area of 19.5 square miles as it flows north into the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The elevation of the upper watershed reaches up to 3,800 feet, with the upper reaches of the stream typically being steep and incised. Although remaining in a confined floodplain, the gradient diminishes in the lower reaches, as the stream flows through lands managed for a mixture of timber harvest, agricultural uses, and rural housing. The Dungeness River Management Team suggested Seibert Creek as a location for a gauging location in order to maintain the long, historical record of flows in the basin. The USGS operated a gauge on the creek from 1952-1969 before ultimately abandoning the site. Since that time, other groups have periodically monitored stream flows to maintain the record to the extent possible.
