Description To study short-term transport and accumulation of native suspended sediments, this study released and will recover sediment tracer particles having fluorescent and magnetic properties into the Lower Duwamish Waterway. The tracers were released upstream of the cleanup site boundary during an ebbing tide and moderate flows and will be recovered from the water column and surface sediments. All samples will be analyzed for total mass and particle size distribution of tracer particles.

Study results will be used to evaluate three model predictions: (1) most sediment enters the site from upstream, (2) sand-sized particles accumulate in the site, and (3) approximately one-half of the fine-sized particles pass through the site.
