Waste Encapsulation and Storage Facility Operating Unit Group 14 (OUG-14)
[TSD ID#: S-2-10] Located in Hanford's 200 East Area, adjoining B Plant, WESF began operating in 1974. This facility stores 1,936 capsules of cesium-137 and strontium-90 underwater. The waste inside the capsules came from Hanford's underground storage tanks in a campaign in the 1970s to remove the extremely radioactive materials.

Issued in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Hazardous Waste Management Act, Chapter 70.105 Revised Code of Washington (RCW), and the regulations promulgated there under in Chapter 173‑303 Washington Administrative Code (WAC).
