T Plant 211-T Pad Closure Unit Group 30 (CUG-30)

[TSD ID#: TS-2-7] Located in Hanford's 200 West Area, T Plant was the first large-scale plutonium separation facility. It performed separations from 1945 to 1956 and is now being used for storage, waste treatment and repackaging activities. Located on the northwest side of the 221-T Canyon Building, the 211-T Pad is a concrete slab surrounded by a concrete berm on three sides, which slopes to a grated blind sump. The 211-T Pad was used to store numerous waste containers over time. The unit was not authorized for permitted storage and is closing. The waste containers have all been removed, but the concrete slab, blind sump, and underlying soil must be clean closed. The concrete slab and blind sump will be decontaminated and focused soil samples will be taken underneath the slab, blind sump, and underneath the location of steel posts through the slab.
