183-H Solar Evaporation Basins Post Closure Unit Group 2 (PCU-2)
[TSD ID#: T-1-4] Located near Hanford’s H Reactor, this unit consisted of four large basins, about 500 feet from the Columbia River. They treated contaminated liquids by letting them evaporate. They bulk of what they received was neutralized acid process waste, chromium, pentoxide, and formic acid. No waste has been added since 1985, and waste and debris have been removed. Groundwater under this site is contaminated with unsafe levels of nitrate, chromium, uranium, and technetium-99.
