300 Area Process Trenches Post Closure Unit Group 1 (PCU-1)

[TSD ID#: D-3-1] Located north of Hanford’s 300 Area, this unit had two trenches, each 1,500 feet long, 15 feet deep, and 10 feet wide at the bottom. The trenches received waste from 1975 through 1994. The unit received up to 2.9 million gallons/day of contaminated waste water from uranium fuel rod production and several laboratories. The groundwater below these trenches is contaminated with organic chemicals.
