Hexone Storage & Treatment Facility Closure Unit Group 19
(CUG-19)

[TSD ID#: TS-2-2] Located in the 200 West Area, north of REDOX, a plutonium processing facility, this unit is two inactive underground tanks that held hexone, a common industrial solvent. The tanks’ contents were pumped out in 1991, but a hard crust, called “heel,” that contains dangerous wastes remains in them. The heel was contained by adding grout to the tanks. USDOE plans to clean close this unit by removing all the regulated waste. A Tri-Party Agreement milestone requires the site to be closed by 2020.
