B Plant Complex Closure Unit Group 24 (CUG-24)
[TSD ID#: TS-2-3] Located in the 200 East Area, this unit is one of Hanford’s first plutonium processing plants. B Plant operated from 1943 to 1952. In the 1960s and 1970s, it had a new mission to remove cesium and strontium from the waste in underground tanks to make the storage of the tank wastes safer. B Plant is shut down, and all wastes, except lead, have been removed.
