241-CX Tank System Closure Unit Group 15 (CUG-15)
[TSD ID#: S-2-9] Located in Hanford’s 200 East Area, this unit consists of three underground tanks. These tanks held waste resulting from pilot processes that helped develop plutonium processing methods. The tanks held a wide variety of dangerous wastes, from arsenic to lead and mercury, plus corrosive chemicals. Today the tanks hold residues of these wastes. USDOE plans to clean close this unit by digging up these tanks and moving them to the Environmental Restoration Disposal Facility.
