216-S-10 Pond & Ditch Closure Unit (CUG-14)
[TSD ID#: D-2-7] Located outside the southwest corner of Hanford’s 200 West Area, the ditch was created in 1951, and the pond was created in 1954. Together, they accepted wastewater from REDOX, a plutonium processing plant. The pond covered roughly 5 acres and was 8 feet below ground surface at its deepest point. The ditch was approximately 0.5 miles long and 6 feet deep. The ditch and pond were decommissioned in 1991. A Tri-Party Agreement milestone requires the site to be closed by 2016.
