216-B-63 Trench Closure Unit (CUG-21)
[TSD ID#: D-2-6] Located northeast of B Plant (a plutonium processing facility) in Hanford’s 200 Area, it was an open, unlined trench, approximately 1,400 feet long and 10 feet deep. From 1970 to 1992, it received emergency cooling water and chemical sewer waste from B Plant and the cesium and storage facility next door. A Tri-Party Agreement milestone requires USDOE to close the ditch by 2020.
