216-B-3 Main Pond Closure Unit Group 22 (CUG-22)

[ TSD ID#: D-1-2 ] Located about 1 mile northeast of the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant, this unlined disposal site operated from 1945 to 1994. It’s a natural depression in the ground, covering about 35 acres and ranging from 2 to 8 feet deep. At the peak of operations, it received 22 million gallons daily. The pond held mostly process and cooling water from several facilities in 200 East Area. The pond was filled with soil in 1994. A Tri-Party Agreement milestone requires the site to be closed by 2016.
