216-A-36B Crib Closure Unit Group 12 (CUG-12)
[ TSD ID#: D-4-2 ] Located south of Hanford’s 200 East Area, this crib operated from 1966 to 1972, and again from 1982 to 1987. It was an unlined disposal structure for contaminated liquids from PUREX , a plutonium processing facility. It received up to 116,000 gallons of diluted nitric acid, ammonium nitrate, and ammonium fluoride per day. It was roughly 23 feet deep and 500 feet wide. A Tri-Party Agreement milestone requires the site to be closed by 2020.
