SITE DESCRIPTION

Past practices at The Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Fabrication Division - Auburn Plant (BCA-Auburn Plant), have contaminated the groundwater with chemicals. Groundwater is water that flows through sub-surface spaces between soil, sand, and gravel particles, or through fractures in rock. The groundwater flowing away from the BCA-Auburn Plant property is contaminated with a class of chemicals called “volatile organic compounds” (VOCs), which give off vapors. Some of the contaminated groundwater flows north and northwest from the Boeing property, into portions of the cities of Algona and Auburn.

The Boeing Company is working under the direction of the Department of Ecology to investigate the contamination and develop a plan for cleanup.
