Abstract:
This data layer is a final 2006 impervious estimate ready for distribution through NOAA CSC. The data set is the 2006 update of NLCD 2001 impervious surfaces for Zone 1, Washington state. This product is used to assess urban growth, map and inventory wetlands, delineate wildlife habitat, determine changes in land cover over time, and more. This layer is a result of NOAA Coastal Services Center and USGS coordinated efforts to produce land cover classification data. C-CAP land cover data is considered the coastal expression of the NLCD. This data set utilized 11 full or partial Landsat TM multispectral scenes which were processed to create an updated 2006 version of 2001 impervious layer for Zone 1, WA state.
Purpose:
To create a baseline inventory of impervious surface which can be utilized by state and local resource managers to assess the impacts of land cover changes.

No automated accuracy was performed during or at the end of the impervious layer production process. Quality Control was carried out by cross-examination 2006 updated impervious layer of Zone 1 with the Landsat TM imagery. Errors of overevaluation, underevaluation and errors of omission and commission were corrected through GIS modeling and hand edits.

Tests for logical consistency indicate that all row and column positions in the selected latitude/longitude window contain data. Conversion and integration with vector files indicates that all positions are consistent with earth coordinates covering the same area. Attribute files are logically consistent.
