Abstract:
Watersheds where populations of the New Zealand mudsnail (Potamopyrgus antipodarum) have been found or are likely to be found due to proximity to known populations. Based on HUC12 WBD Watersheds from USGS.
Purpose:
Summary Populations of the New Zealand mudsnail are likely to be found within these watersheds. Extra steps should be taken to decontaminate gear when leaving waters in these areas to avoid spreading the New Zealand mudsnail to new locations.
Supplemental_Information:
The watershed and subwatershed hydrologic unit boundaries provide a uniquely identified and uniform method of subdividing large drainage areas. These smaller sized hydrologic units (up to 250,000 acres) are useful in many programs supported by the NRCS and others.

Process_Description:
PNW Hydrography Framework (PNWHF) Partner agencies originally delineated hydrologic unit boundaries to meet specific agency requirements. The PNWHF Partnership initiated a workshop-oriented process whereby agreed-upon hydrologic boundaries were accepted or delineated using 1:24,000 scale Digital Raster Graphics. A number of new Hydrological Unit Boundaries were also delineated using flow lines and basins computed from 10- and 30-meter horizontal resolution Digital Elevation data based on flow derived from the elevation grid to determine potential pour points. This workshop process resulted in a seamless hydrologic boundary dataset for Oregon. The PNWHF dataset was made available via its website for operational edits. PNWHF Partners downloaded the dataset, edited boundaries and attribution, and submitted the updated dataset back to the PNWHF server. The dataset was frozen prior to submittal to the review and edit process, the precursor to NRCS certification.

Process_Description:
USGS refined the PNWHF Hydrologic Unit Boundaries and required attribution using consistent, reproducible methods that meet the "Federal Standards for Delineations of Hydrologic Unit Boundaries". It was agreed that the Digital Raster Graphic (DRG) would be the primary source used for delineating boundaries. Arc, polygon and attribute adjustments were made to each PNW workarea. It was agreed by the PNW Partners and the USGS to utilize the high resolution National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) to assist with delineating hydrologic unit boundaries and locating pour points wherever possible. In these locations, the Washington WBD may deviate from the primary DRG base. The three water hydrologic units in the Columbia River (170800060500, 170800030700 & 170900120500) utilized the NHD Area and NHD Waterbody featureclasses to delineate their shorelines. It was agreed by the PNW Partners and the USGS to use the 2001 Washington State ShoreZone Inventory (szline.shp) from the Washington State Dept of Natural Resources as the coastline for the Washington WBD. This coastline extends from the mouth of the Columbia River to the north. This includes the Pacific coastline, Willapa Bay, Grays Harbor, the Strait of Juan De Fuca, the Puget Sound, and all of the islands. The Washington State ShoreZone Inventory delineates the mean high water mark and the salt water shorelines. It was agreed by the PNW Partners and the USGS to utilize the British Columbia, Canada, Watershed Atlas datasets (1:50,000 scale) to assist with delineating hydrologic units that cross the international boundary. The Washington WBD stops at the international boundary but efforts were made to match the Canadian datasets where possible. Changes were limited in the dataset to only those modifications that were needed to meet the national guidelines. Replacement of boundary lines or HU names that already met the standard was to be avoided. There were two reviews by PNW Hydrography Framework (PNWHF) stewards and NRCS stewards before a final was delivered back to PNWHF by USGS. After each review the USGS incorporated changes that were identified and agreed-upon during the review process.

Process_Description:
Meta_ID: WA04 The Washington State WBD Steward received proposed WBD boundary modifications from Washington State NHD Steward. The modifications are to fix conflicts, that LiDAR brought up, between the NHD and WBD . Subbasins 17110016, 17100103, 17110012, and 17110013 were updated during this edit. Each of these proposed changes were reviewed by affected stewards for validity. The first WBD modification changes the 8-digit, 10-digit and 12-digit boundaries between 17100103 and 17110016. There are no number or name changes. The area in question was field checked to verify that the NHD from the LiDAR was correct and the WBD needed to be moved to incorporate the changes. The proposed boundary has been delineated following LiDAR contours. The boundary was only modified to account for the change in streamflow in this specific area. Therefore the LiDAR-derived boundary is highly detailed until it attaches into the original DRG-derived boundary at either end of the proposed modification. The second modification changes the 8-digit boundary between 17110012 and 17110013 and creates a new 12-digit hydrologic unit (171100120106) called Rock Creek. The downstream 12-digit unit will become 171100120107. Because 171100120107 is the outlet of the 1711001201 10-digit unit, no other unit number is affected. King County did a field investigation to determine the flow of Rock Creek. They determined that this creek flowed into a different drainage area than what the NHD and WBD had originally delineated. King County submitted proposed modifications to the State NHD Steward. The NHD and WBD Stewards agreed that Rock Creek flows to the north instead of to the west and that the proposed boundary addressed the issue. The WBD steward submitted these final modified WBD boundaries inside extracted surrounding 12-digit hydrologic units to PNWHF/BLM-Oregon for incorporation into the Fall 2011 WBD Update geodatabase. The submitted WBD boundary is based on DRG contours using LiDAR contours as guide. The changes were made using the ESRI Reshape Edge tool using the Trace option in ArcGIS 10.0 on the 9.2 geodatabase.

Process_Description:
Fall/Winter 2013/2014 Edit: The Washington WBD dataset was updated to incorporate changes submitted by the Pacific Northwest Hydrography Framework (PNWHF) partner organizations. The Changes include a Subbasin (HU8) lines being modified in a relatively minor way to reflect the change of river courses over time. And a Watershed (HU10) line change due to LiDAR derived streams crossing the old line. The Washington NHD State Steward submitted a request to move the boundary between Subbasins 17110005 and 1711006 to reflect changes of river courses over time. In two separate places along the Sauk River the course has changed from what was originally on the DRG. This caused the boundary to cut the River in two places once the NHD was moved to reflect what is truly on the ground. The Line was moved to reflect the changes to the NHD. A line move between Watersheds 1711002005 and 1711002004 was also submitted by the NHD State Steward. NHD flowlines are being updated based on LiDAR now available. One network of streams was found that it course flows across this boundary and should actually be in the other watershed. The line was redigitized around these streams to put them into the watershed they should be in.

Overview_Description:
Entity_and_Attribute_Overview:
<http://pubs.usgs.gov/tm/11/a3/pdf/tm11-a3.pdf> This WBD coverage contains attributes for polygons and arcs. Hydrologic Unit delineations are closed polygons that encompass all area draining toward the lowest point (called pour point) in the polygon. Because of nominal sizes for the different hydrologic unit level: Watershed (40,000 to 250,000 acres) and Subwatershed (generally 10,000 to 40,000 acres), some polygons do not include all areas up to the drainage divide but all areas to one or more other upstream hydrologic units. A unique hydrologic unit code is used to identify each hydrologic unit. The hydrologic unit codes start with the 8-digit Sub-basin (huc_8) number that contains the Watershed. Likewise the Subwatershed hydrologic unit codes (huc_12) start with the 10-digit Watershed number (huc_10) that contains the Subwatershed.
