Sign Language Interpreters who work as Independent Contractors

The Washington State Department of Enterprise Services (DES) in cooperation with Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) Office of Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ODHH), has established a Master Contract for the purchase of Sign Language Interpreter Services with Independent Contractors.

Washington State values effective communication, and will provide sign language interpreters upon request to Deaf, DeafBlind, Hard of Hearing, Late Deafened and Deaf Plus individuals who are seeking access to information, programs or services that state agencies provide to the public.

ODHH oversees the service aspect of these Contracts. ODHH monitors contractual compliance which includes the quality of services, screening Interpreters for certification validity, background checks and adherence to best practices.
