DNR Timber Sales Search

User Manual 


 The DNR Timber Sales Web Search application (TSWS) is a web based search application that displays the results of a search query. The application has two parts, Part 1: user selection page or Query Page, where users select the parameters, e.g. Region, Species, Date etc and Part 2 is the Results page of the records from the database.

This application will support the agency’s desire to provide information to the marketing efforts of Product Sales and Leasing Division (PS&L).  For more information click: http://www.dnr.wa.gov/htdocs/fr/sales/

 1.Select Your Search Criteria ( Query Page) 

User has the following choices (parameters) to select for the query to retrieve records from the Database

 The parameters are can be accessed from the dropdown list for each category (1-8), some restrictions are for the combination of the selections (see option 8).

 User Parameters Options/ categories

  1. Date: Current month + next two future months
  1. DNR Region: All or any one of the six DNR regions
  1. Tree Species: All or any particular specie e.g. Douglas fir, Ponderosa pine, Western hemlock  (17 individual species are listed, plus all species option and 4-5” top all species (Northeast Region only)
  1. Sale Name: All or any sale (over 200 sales are listed).  Note:  If a specific sale is selected, the correct auction month must also be chosen.  Sales that are not to be auctioned in the months available in category 1 will not display data.
  1. Select the diameter range: diameter represents the cruise average diameter at breast height for the selected species, has two options

 a)       Equal to & greater than – Inches: 0 to 60 in increments of 5 ascending

b)       Equal to & less than – Inches – Inches: 60 to 0 in increments of 5 descending 

  1. Ring Count selection: equal to & greater than 0,4,8,10 or 12 rings per inch measured at dbh in the outer 1/3 of the bole or a minimum of 5”.      
  1. Select Species % as portion of the Total Sale: selection can any one of the 4 options: any Volume, >25%, >50%, >75%
  1. Select min % volume by grade for selected species: This Category has 4 options to chose from and has a restriction that the sum of these 4 options must be less than or equal to 100%, if the sum is greater than 100% an error page will be displayed. To view an Error page click here.

Submit Button: Submits selections and publishes the “Results Page”, see the screen shot below.

 RESET Button: Resets the results of the user to default values.


Ø      Use Back button to resubmit the selection

Ø      Narrow the selection from All to a specific value

Ø      Use Back to Start Page from top right of the results page to reset query to default settings

Ø      Use Page numbers on the top right of the results page to go to next page

Ø      Single Mouse click on the column headings will sort the results both Ascending/Descending

Ø       The selection of parameters of Category 8 must be  <= 100%, otherwise error page pops up, i.e.   Sum (Special Mill & better+2saw+3Saw+4saw) <=100%

2. Results Page 

 The Results are retrieved from the Oracle database based on the user parameters.  The records are published in a data grid (similar to excel spreadsheet). These are read only results and the main user selections are given on the top of the page

User can sort the results by mouse click on the column heading (one click ascending, next click descending verse vice) and go to next pages to see more records if any.

 Back To Query Page Button: Use this button to go back to “Query Page” and the page resets to default values.

 Also, the Results Page displays the Number of Sales (count) and the Sum of all species MBF.  Thisis displayed in small boxes above the main data grid. For more details see the screen shot below

  3. Error Page:

This page displays the errors of the system and user selection.  User can go back to the main selection page by selecting the back button or “Previous Page” button (This will not work for system/server errors)
