GETTING STARTED
The desired future condition (DFC) can be accessed from the DNR website.
On the
Forest Practices Forms & Instructions web page.
Scroll down and click on "DFC Worksheet Version 3.0".
To review past submitted DFC calculations or resume data entry select the “Retrieve Data” tab located at the top.
DATA INPUT SCREEN
- Landowner – Enter name of legal landowner or contact person
- Address – Enter address of landowner or contact person
- Phone – Enter phone number of landowner or contact person
- Project Name – Enter a project name. Project names are required.
- Legal description – Enter section, Township, Range (E)(W) where stream segment is located.
- Stream Segment – Enter the stream or stream segment label where DFC data was collected. This can be a name, number, letter or combination. A separate DFC calculation must be run on each stream or stream segment within the project. Stream with its corresponding label must be identified on your Forest Practices application map.
- Site Class – Choose 1,2,3,4,5
- Major Species – Choose Douglas fir or Hemlock
- Stream Size – West Side: Choose "Small" if bankfull is 10 feet or less; Choose "Large" if width is greater than 10 feet. East side: Choose "Small" if bankfull width is 15 feet or less; Choose "Large" if bankfull width is greater than 15 feet.
- RMZ Length ft. – Enter length in feet of the RMZ, or segment of the RMZ being evaluated. This is the length of the RMZ measured parallel to the stream from the inner zone/outer zone line. Use numbers only.
- Eastside High Altitude RMZ – Check this box only if stand is an Eastern Washington High Elevation timber habitat above 5000 ft.
To view Inner Zone Management Options available click on the "View Options" button at the bottom of screen.
After you have clicked the "View Option" button the data will be saved and can be edited after viewing the options at that time or retrieved at a later date.
THINNING FROM BELOW:
Refer to Forest Practices Rule Book Chapters 222-30-021 or 222-30-022 for details
on inner zone management options. The RMZ prescriptions presented by this software
assume uniform distribution of trees throughout the inner zone.
If DFC is
not met or the proposed thinning violates the minimum tree per acre of 57 or if the thinning decreases the proportion of conifer in the stand than inner zone harvesting under Option 1 will not be allowed.
- The Option 1 graphic shows the zone widths in boxes at the edge of each zone in the graphic.
- Text messages are presented in the inner and outer zones which describe the prescriptions for those zones.
- In the inner zone, if harvesting is allowed, the text will tell the operator the actual number of trees that must be left on the ground in the inner zone. The number of residual conifer trees per acre in the inner zone will equal or exceed 57 per acre. The Stand table grid below the graphic's display will show the actual numbers of trees by diameter class that must be left in the inner zone to meet stand requirements.
- The inner zone Stand table data grid shows the original stand table date and the number of trees that the operator can cut by diameter class.
- In the outer zone the text will display the actual number trees that must be left in the outer zone.
If the Projected Basal Area at age 140 as a % of DBH is 100% or less then no harvest will be allowed.
Refer to Forest Practices Rule book WAC 222-30-021 (1)(b)(ii)(A) No inner zone management.
- Average DBH, BA/Ac., trees/Ac., minimum % conifer and % conifer are post harvest stand conditions
- The process for getting credit for trees left in the CMZ is detailed in WAC 222-30-021(1)(c)(iv)(B). Where conifer is involved it is a straight sq ft basal area for sq ft basal area trade. Where alder in the CMZ is traded for alder in the outer zone it is also a straight sq ft for sq ft trade. Where alder in the CMZ is traded for conifer in the outer zone the trade is 3 sq ft of alder for each sq ft of conifer basal area in the outer zone.
LEAVING TREES CLOSEST TO STREAM:
Option 2 is not available if the required DFC is not met or on the west side on site 3,4,5 ground along large streams or on the east side for high elevation timber habitat type (above 5000 ft.) stands.
- The display graphic only appears if Option 2 inner zone management is allowed and presents text messages that give the inner and outer zones prescription for the RMZ.
- The widths of each zone are shown in boxes at the edge of each zone in the graphic.
- In the floor area (no cut area of the inner zone), if harvesting is allowed, the text will tell the operator the basal area credit allowed for harvest in the outer zone if any.
- Riparian leave trees which must be left between the floor and the outer edge of the inner zone will be displayed.
- In the outer zone a message will be displayed which describes the standard number of leave trees which must be left and the option for reducing this number.
Outer zone width and acres are given.
If Option 2 is not available and landowner proposes to harvest in the outer zone refer to chart in WAC 222-30-021 (1)(c) for leave tree requirements.
- EDIT Input Data: Clicking on the "Edit Input" button will return proponent to input screen and allow data to be edited.
- Save and Print All Results: Clicking on the "Save and Print all Result" button will take you to the Printable results screen that the proponent must printout and attach to their FPA.
- Note: Once the "Save and Print all Results" button has been selected the proponent can no longer edit the data page. If proponent wants to change something they will need to re-enter the data using a new project name.
