FISHING RULE CHANGE
WASHINGTON DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND WILDLIFE 600 Capitol Way North, Olympia, WA 98501-1091 |
June 13, 2007
Action:
Sufficient quota remains in Hood Canal to extend the shrimp season one day between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on June 23.
Effective date:
9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2007.
Species affected:
All shrimp.
Location:
All waters of the Hood Canal (Marine Area 12).
Reason for action:
Sufficient quota remains in Hood Canal to warrant extending the shrimp season for one more day.
Other information:
The Hood Canal shrimp district will reopen to recreational fishing for a seventh day because the drastic reduction in overall effort on June 7 contributed to a much lower harvest of spot shrimp in the canal than expected.
Fishers are reminded that shrimp pots used in the fishery must have a minimum mesh opening size such that a 7/8-inch square peg will pass through each mesh opening, except for the entrance tunnels. Flexible (web) mesh pots must have a minimum mesh opening size of one and three-quarters inch stretch measure.
