Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife FISHING RULE CHANGE
WASHINGTON DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND WILDLIFE
600 Capitol Way North, Olympia, WA 98501-1091

May 25, 2006

Recreational halibut fishing will reopen in June off Neah Bay and La Push

Action: Marine Areas 3 and 4 reopen for halibut fishing; anglers may fish for, retain, possess and land Pacific halibut into Marine Areas 3 and 4.

Effective dates: From 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2006, and from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2006

Species affected: Pacific halibut

Location: Marine Fish Catch Areas 3 and 4

Reasons for action: The North Coast (Neah Bay and La Push) recreational halibut fishery caught less halibut than projected last week, providing sufficient quota to allow us to reopen the fishery for two days in June.

Other information: There is a 20-fathom depth restriction in place in Areas 3 and 4 through September 30, 2006, which applies on all days that halibut fishing is closed. Anglers may not fish for, retain, possess or land any rockfish or lingcod caught seaward of a line approximating 20 fathoms offshore, except on June 22 and 24. The coordinates for the 20-fm line are available on the Departments website and recreational hotline.
