Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife FISHING RULE CHANGE
600 Capitol Way North, Olympia, WA 98501-1091

March 29, 2019

Klineline Pond closure for Kids Fishing Event

Action: Closes Klineline Pond to public fishing beginning at noon, April 10, through April 13, 2019.

Effective dates:

Beginning at noon, April 10 through April 11: Pond closed to fishing.

April 12 and 13: Pond open to registered participants in the Klineline Kids Fishing event.

April 14: Pond reopens to the public.

Species affected: All species

Location: Klineline Pond is located at Salmon Creek Regional Park, on NE 117th St., Vancouver, Washington

Reason for action: This rule change is necessary to ensure a safe and successful Klineline Kids Fishing event. Block nets will be installed in Klineline Pond beginning at noon on April 10. Several thousand trout will be planted into the netted-off areas along the shoreline on April 11, allowing them time to acclimate to the pond prior to the event. On the days of the event, registered children will be allowed to fish within the netted areas. Public anglers will not be able to fish until the pond reopens on Sunday, April 14.

The pond will remain closed after the event has ended on April 13 to ensure the safety of the public, participants, and event organizers who will be breaking down and removing equipment. There is several hundred feet of netting that must be removed from the shoreline area after the event has ended.

Additional information: This year's event is expected to attract between 8,000 and 10,000 individuals, including roughly 3,000 registered kids, over a two-day period.
