FISHING RULE CHANGE

Action:
The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife will require anglers to release white sturgeon caught between John Day Dam and McNary Dam on the Columbia River.
Effective date:
12:01 a.m., July 12, through Dec. 31, 2004.
Species affected:
Sturgeon
Location:
The Columbia River and tributaries from John Day Dam upstream to McNary Dam.
Reason for action:
The cut-off date for retention of sturgeon was adopted because Washington and Oregon fish managers estimate that the harvest guideline of 165 fish will be achieved by July 12.
Other information:
The reservoirs and tributaries between Bonneville Dam and John Day Dam will remain closed to retention through Dec. 31.
