Firearms Retention and Disarming Instructor #2074



Course Description:

Firearms Retention/Recovery and Disarming Instructor class is a 16-hour course designed to promote techniques for self-protection that effectively and efficiently deal with aggravated-assault level resistors who are attempting to disarm the officer.

Within this course, the participant will learn and understand:

  • The principles of handgun and long gun defense and disarming
  • Targeting principles
  • Proper psychomotor skills involved in their employment
  • How the various components of Level Two and Three tactics are applied to these serious and potentially life threatening situations

The Participant will understand the guidelines:

  • Surrounding the use of force at this level of threat
  • Proper means of instruction and testing
  • Theoretical background to analyze other similar programs in order to develop agency specific programs consistent with agency policies

Required equipment:

  • Fully equipped duty belt and the inert-firearm carried on duty
  • Tape for wrists
  • Elbow, forearm and kneepads
  • Mouth guard
  • Gloves
  • Airsoft pistol, and eye protection are also required for participation
  • Impact resistant suit such as FIST or Red Man type gear as well

  • Long-gun retention
  • Handgun disarming
  • Long-gun disarming
  • Grounded handgun retention and recovery
  • Braced-contact shooting principles and secondary weapons use
  • Disarm attempts and use of force issues

Prerequisite:                      Defensive Tactics Instructor Course #2076 and Ground Survival Tactics Instructor

Course #2187 because of the physical nature of the class, participants are required to

sign a liability waiver.


Dress Code & Identification:

    Visitors attending training at WSCJTC are encouraged to wear their agency logo shirt/uniform or agency ID badge while on campus.  If you are not wearing agency identification, you will be asked to check in at the front desk and will be provided with a clip-on visitor's identification card.

Recertification course:       Firearms Retention and Disarming Instuctor Course #2174, is an 8 hour course, and

should be attended within 3 years of last certification.
