This is a basic level course intended for detectives and other law enforcement personnel relatively new to processing crime scenes. The course is taught by multiple members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Evidence Response Team. It includes classroom instruction and practical exercises outside of the classroom. Instruction topices include:
- Basic crime scene management
- Latent prints
- Serology and DNA
- Alternate light source
- Searching vehicles
- Collecting scent
- Recovering human remains
- Autopsy procedures
- Case studies
The course culminates in the students dividing into teams and processing a mock crime scene, using the techniques learned from the course. It is a fast-paced course and each block of instruction builds on the ones before it.
Prerequisite: Officers seeking introductory or refresher training on Crime Scene Management and processing.
Dress Code & Identification:
- Uniforms, agency logo clothing or business casual attire is appropriate for classroom wear.
- Visible Agency official ID is recommended (badges / agency IDs) while on campus
