NEW! Chief For a Day 2014 is hosting an online auction to help sponsoring agencies that chose to participate raise money for their chief’s and sheriff’s! It is exciting to have this up and running and I hope this will help those participating departments raise much needed funds! The auction bidding opens tomorrow 3/27/14, at 10:00 AM PDT.                                         NEW Free Online Training! Prevention of Officer-Involved Domestic Violence!  

Funded by the Verizon Foundation, the Florida State University developed a free online program geared toward the prevention of officer-involved domestic violence. The National Prevention Toolkit on Officer-Involved Domestic Violence is available to law enforcement officers in Washington.

Training Officers:
  Use the “Contact Us” at the above program link to obtain your initial login.  Florida State University’s Institute for Family Violence will send you the login for the program.

The WSCJTC recognizes each module of the program as 1 CE credit hour toward the continuing education mandate of RCW 43.101.095.  This training will be logged at the agencies and not by the WSCJTC. 

Information about free online training is provided to the public safety community of Washington as a courtesy and not as an endorsement of any specific program.  The decision to use any free online training is at the discretion of each agency.

                           New Training Materials Available

Law enforcement officers across the state of Washington, now have access to Sikh American cultural awareness training materials upon request. WSCJTC is collaborating with the Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund (SALDEF) in distributing valuable training materials. Materials include the video On Common Ground, which provides an overview of Sikh American cultural practices, describes Sikh articles of faith, explores common misconceptions, and presents strategies and best practices to use in non-emergency situations when interacting with community members – as well as reference cards with officer-safety and cultural engagement recommendations. During the December 12, 2012 Commission meeting, Commissioners approved changes to Chapter 139-07 WAC – Conditions of Employment. Effective 01/27/2013

 Since 2006, the WSCJTC has been mandated per WAC 139-05-300, to verify annually that every peace officer certified per RCW 43.101.095, has completed a minimum of 24 hours of in-service training in the prior year of service.
