Course Description:

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a significant public health concern nationally and in the state of Washington. It is estimated that in Washington State alone approximately 15,444 veterans will be returning to their communities with a probable TBI. This, in addition to nonmilitary related TBI cases, makes the probability of a Patrol or Corrections Officer coming into contact with someone suffering from a TBI very likely. In addition, the symptoms and behaviors associated with this disorder further increase the chances that an individual with a TBI will come into contact with Law Enforcement and Corrections. It is of the utmost importance that officers learn to recognize and respond appropriately to individuals with a TBI and if possible connect them to appropriate resources.

This course is an overview of Concussion Response: TBI to help personnel respond to those with TBI more effectively.
