Advanced Communications Training Officer (ACTO), Course #0744

This is a 24-hour course, sixteen hours of which are delivered in the classroom and eight hours of which are accomplished through pre-course reading and assignments.


This highly facilitated course will provide participants with ideas and information about the way in which training is delivered to adults in a way that is faster and more effective.  It has been designed as a highly interactive and participative course that will provide hands-on training and exercises for attendees.


Due to the advanced nature of the course agencies are encouraged to send individuals with at least 1 year of training employees.  Perquisites will include: Successful completion of the CJTC or APCO CTO course


The Advanced CTO (ACTO) course will address the following topics:

  • Review of basic adult learning principles, Knowles, Bloom, and Evidence-based Training methods, including grounded brain based learning
  • Introduction to the philosophy of accelerated learning
    • Advanced adult learning methods
    • Multiple Intelligence theory (Gardner)
    • Triune brain theory and learning (MacLean)
      • Conditions of Learning (Gagné)
  • Situational Leadership and the CTO
  • Comparison of the San Jose and Reno training models
  • Creating effective DORs and SEGs
  • Trainer roundtable discussion of issues

 

Pre-Course readings:

  • Course participants will be given pre-course reading of the book Leadership and the One Minute Manager by Ken Blanchard and Drea Zigarmi.

Pre-requisites:

Due to the advanced nature of the course agencies are encouraged to send individuals with at least 1 year of training employees.  Perquisites will include:  Successful completion of the CJTC or APCO CTO course.

 

Persons with T1 and T2 certifications will be given selection preference in order to assist them in meeting their continuing education requirements.

  • Currently employed as a telecommunicator at a recognized PSAP in the State of Washington

 

Who can attend our classes?

  • Public safety telecommunicators employed at a recognized PSAP in the State of Washington.
  • Employees from other call centers, government agencies or security departments will not be accepted.

  • 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Dates and locations listed below.

Cancellation Policy:

  • Notification to our office is required three (3) weeks before the start of class
  • Student no shows or cancellations less than three (3) weeks before class are billed $125.
  • Materials may be required to be returned to our office.

Retesting

There is no test for this class.
