Our agency’s mission is to provide access to quality care for Washington’s most vulnerable residents  while managing public resources in a prudent and sustainable manner.  In the coming years, DSHS will be working with you to bring a modern, more efficient payment system into operation for a broad range of health care and social services.  We value your support and contribution to this effort!

DSHS announced today that it plans to implement the new Pharmacy Point-of-Sale (POS) system on August 18, 2008.  The POS is a pre-release of ProviderOne which is targeted to go into operation this December.  Only pharmacies who use the DSHS POS system are affected by this implementation.

National Provider Identifier Reporting

The NPI reporting activity[1] has concluded and the reporting tool is no longer available

Did you miss the window of opportunity to report your NPI to DSHS?

If providers did not report their NPI(s) to DSHS before August 21, 2007, or need to correct an NPI already reported, there will be an opportunity in the Summer of 2008 to see how your provider record will be set up in ProviderOne and to update missing information (including your NPI) before the new system is implemented.

Provider updates record
in ProviderOne

In the interim, DSHS continues to require your Medicaid Provider Number and NPI on all electronic and paper claims until ProviderOne is implemented.  Please note that submitting an NPI on a claim does not fulfill the NPI reporting requirement because the old payment system will not capture it.

Do you want to be notified of next steps?

  • The ProviderOne project has established an email distribution list dedicated to provider readiness activities. DSHS will send messages to instruct you on the next steps and to announce upcoming training events.  You may join or leave this list anytime at:

 http://listserv.wa.gov/archives/providerone_provider_readiness.html

Do you have questions about getting ready for ProviderOne?

[1] This activity and tool was used to collect and map NPI information to DSHS provider numbers so DSHS could move a copy of your provider records and your claims history to our new payment processing system – ProviderOne.  Although ProviderOne is not yet in service, this data is needed in the new system to support ongoing testing.
