What Is SCHIP?
|
SCHIP stands for the State Children's Health Insurance Program. SCHIP is a federal and state program that covers children under age 19 in families whose income is too high for Medicaid but still fits within certain guidelines. Both Medicaid and SCHIP are administered by the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS). When you apply for SCHIP, we consider your children for Medicaid first. If your children are not eligible for Medicaid because your income is too high, we then check to see if your income fits within the SCHIP income guidelines. If your children are eligible for Medicaid, they are not eligible for SCHIP.
