Abstract:
This layer shows Nesting, Roosting, and Foraging (NRF) and Dispersal Management Areas designated for Northern Spotted Owl conservation under the HCP in 1997 and later updated for the land transactions of DNR-managed lands. The habitat management areas are strategically chosen to contribute to demographic support, maintenance of species distribution, and facilitation of dispersal. There are no designated habitat management areas in the Olympic Experimental State Forest (OESF) Planning Unit. The conservation strategy for Northern Spotted Owl in this planning unit relies on an unzoned approach - managing each of the 11 Landscape Planning Units to maintain and restore threshold proportions of potential spotted owl habitat. |

Metadata elements shown with blue text are defined in the Federal Geographic Data Committee's (FGDC) Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM). Elements shown with green text are defined in the ESRI Profile of the CSDGM. Elements shown with a green asterisk (*) will be automatically updated by ArcCatalog. ArcCatalog adds hints indicating which FGDC elements are mandatory; these are shown with gray text.

To be used in DNR management and HCP implementation and monitoring activities.
Management of the forest stands within NRF and Dispersal designated Management Areas is described in the HCP (IV.3-10 and IV.19-22). Specific guidance for the management activities in designated NRF and Dispersal Management Areas for the west-side planning units is provided in the Forestry Handbook Procedure PR 14-004-120 (September, 2004).
Date of last update
No constraints internally for DNR staff. Product License Agreement must be accepted for distribution outside the agency.
The land transactions' update for the period 1997-2004 was conducted by Christina Kellum and Scott Sagor.
The data on the designated NRF and Dispersal Management Areas is derived from the OWLMGMT97 layer. Edits completed is March, 2005 used pocaall, Susan Ragland's and Kristin Jamison's (AMP Division) layers. Edits completed in December, 2005 used Jill Johnson's (Southeast Region) klickamend04 layer.
