Description:
Abstract:
WCHYDRO and
WBHYDRO together make up the most complete and up to date hydrography layer for the State of
Purpose:
The Watercourse
(WC, WCHYDRO) and Water Body/Water Shoreline (WBWS, WBHYDRO) Hydrography layers support the implementation of the new
Forest Practices Fish Habitat Water Type Map. The primary purpose of these data
is to aid in the application of timber harvest and other forest practices
regulations and activities by the Washington State Department of Natural
Resources (DNR) within the forested areas of the state. Other uses include
cartography and analysis where hydrographic data is
required.
Supplemental
information:
Within DNR, the
Watercourse and Waterbody/Water Shoreline datasets are
available through ROPA as WCHYDRO and WBHYDRO Personal GeoDatabase Feature Classes and through /database/covers as
WC and WBWS arc/node topology ARC/INFO coverages.
Externally, these data sets are available for download through the DNR website
as WC and WBWS in zipped ARC/INFO export files (.e00).

Wet
area. To avoid any
legal or jurisdictional implication of the use of the term "wetland", the term
"wet area" is used in Hydro to describe lands including swamps, marshes, bogs,
and similar areas such as wet meadows, river overflows, mudflats, and natural
ponds. Used herein, a "wet area" is an area characterized by periodic inundation
or saturation, hydric soils, and vegetation adapted
for life in saturated soil conditions. Any number of tidal and nontidal areas characterized by saturated or nearly
saturated soils most of the year that form an interface between terrestrial and
aquatic environments; including freshwater marshes around ponds and channels,
and brackish and salt marshes. Definition source: US Bureau of
Reclamation.

using WC_CONTU_CD with WC_PERIOD_CD: If areas of perennial, intermittent or
ephemeral flow exist along a stream reach they are not separated out; the
hydrologist chooses the dominant periodicity and calls the continuity
"interrupted". If the reach is not continuously perennial or intermittent
it is described as "interrupted". This attribute describes the physical
characteristics of a stream. The scale at which the data are captured or

scale. The map scale at which a given feature may be displayed. Some

largest scale at which the feature should be displayed. All data in the
data set is appropriate to display at 1:24,000. This attribute is intended to be
used when displaying these data at different scales. For example, if creating a
map at a scale of 1:100,000 the data that is appropriate to display at 1:24,000
may appear too dense and therefore the map may not be legible. This attribute
could be utilized to "de-densify" the

Description:
Abstract:
WC (WCHYDRO) and
WBWS (WBHYDRO) (collectively known as DNR HYDRO) together make up the most
complete and up to date hydrography layer for the
State of
Purpose:
The Watercourse
(WC, WCHYDRO) and Water Body/Water Shoreline (WBWS, WBHYDRO) Hydrography layers support the implementation of the new
Forest Practices Fish Habitat Water Type Map. The Forest Practices Water Typing
system was developed and is maintained solely for the regulation of forest
practices (WAC 222). The primary purpose of these data is to aid in the
application of timber harvest and other forest practices regulations and
activities by the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Other
uses include cartography and analysis where hydrographic data is

Water body
longitude/latitude identifier number (LLID). All polygonal features are assigned
an LLID. These include water bodies, islands, and dams, etc. The LLID has 13
characters, is based on the position of the polygon label point, and is created
by concatenating the decimal degree values (to four places of precision) of the
coordinates (minus the decimal points). LLID numbers are generally unique across
WBHYDRO. A tiny precentage (0.06%) on July 11, 2006)
of WB_LLID_NRs have a frequency greater than 1. These
records represent features made up of more than one polygon. For example, a
stream may be made up of several polygons connected by a single arc watercourse;
the polygons will all have identical WB_LLID_NRs.
There is no valid default value for this field and it must be
populated.
