CODE TABLE OR VALUE RANGE: HYDRO.LINE.TY.CODE

           DESCRIPTION:

Water body interior line segments are required for

network processing.  This item codes the interior

lines so that they can be extracted for displaying

"clean" maps--that is, maps that don't have

extraneous lines within the the center of lakes,

or wide rivers.  Regular stream segments and water

               body boundaries are also coded.

Data source:  Line type coding are derived via

                             DNR geographic information system

                             software.

                             Spatial representation of center lines

                             is provided through interpretive

                             analysis by DNR GIS staff.

           DESCRIPTION:

Number set up by the USGS dividing the United States

and Caribbean outlying areas into a heiarchy of

hydrologic units.  From largest to smallest, the

units are called "Region", "Subregion", "Accounting

Unit", and "Cataloging Unit."  The smallest units

delineate river basins that have drainage areas

usually greater than 700 square miles.

                               (STORET--EPA Water Quality Data Base).

                            b) Cataloging Unit.

Data Source: Where possible, 7.5 min. USGS Hydrologic

Unit Boundary Maps were used to digitize

boundaries.  Where these did not exist,

maps at a smaller scale were used.

           DESCRIPTION:

This number combines the USGS Cataloging Unit number

and a stream segment number to uniquely identify a

watercourse to the reach level, and to the subreach

when a mile point identifier is attached.  The

               Environmental Protection Agency developed this

identifier for a computerized catalog of stream

               statistics of the United States.

This number is used to access water quality data in

               EPA's STORET database.

CODE TABLE OR VALUE RANGE: 000.00-999.99

           DESCRIPTION:

River mile points were developed to geographically

locate and cross-reference fish use, landmark, and

stream length descriptions in published format.  These

standardized mileages were generally assigned by

measuring the stream thalweg distance between the points

on USGS 7.5 minute quadrangle maps.  Because hydrographic

features characteristically move over time and the

reference remains static, the term "benchmark" has been

applied to these data as stored on DNR's geographic

               information system.

This "point" information is stored in the hydrography

line files as descriptions of the line segment's upper

(and lower) benchmarks.  The stream catalog (see data

source) is used to provide the locations of the whole

mile references.  Interstitial benchmarks are derived

               from system software calculation.

               Synonym(s):   a) River Mile Index

                             b) River Mile Benchmark

                             c) Fisheries River Mile Number

                             d) Fisheries Benchmark

           DESCRIPTION:

DNR Water Types classify streams, lakes, and ponds in

Washington in relation to forest practices.  Type code

definitions were developed cooperatively by the

departments of natural resources, fisheries, wildlife,

and ecology, affected Indian tribes, private industry

and environmental groups. Water types are periodically updat

"Water Type Inspection" forms are submitted for TFW concurre

               and DNR approval.

CODE TABLE OR VALUE RANGE: 0 OR DATE YYYYMMDD >= 19920101

           DESCRIPTION:

The most recent date that the water classification for a

stream segment was officially approved by the Department

               of Natural Resources.

               Comments:

The classification of a stream may be periodically evaluated

through field inspection. As a result the water type may be

upgraded downgraded or confirmed (no change). The sponsor-

ing or initiating agency or tribe must then submit a Water

Type Inspection form for TFW concurrence and DNR approval.

               Records with a WATER.TYPE.CD = 0 (Township boundaries

included in the coverage that are not coincident with a

               stream) will have a WATER.TYPE.DT = 0. Initially

records will have a date of 19920101 assigned as a default

date. Therefore a date of 19920101 does not reflect the most

recent date that the water classification of a stream

segment was officially approved but acts as a place holder.

Valid dates will be entered as part of the HYDRO update

           DESCRIPTION:

Washington state is divided into 62 WRIAs.  Boundaries

were developed by state natural resource agencies in

cooperation with the US Geological Survey.  Boundary

delineation was based on manageable water catchment

units.  Typically, WRIAs consist of three or more

watersheds.  Boundaries were originally defined on

               1:24000 and 1:62500 USGS quadrangles.

Note that in some cases WRIA basin names for the Puget

Sound area do not correspond between the Fisheries

Stream Catalog (WDF) and other sources, i.e.--

WRIA.CD  DNR, DOE, etc.          WDF WA Stream Cat.
